BREAK...

Am 8. April 2010

On April 8th, 2010

GoDot is enjoying a break for a (undetermined) while. That doesn't mean all C64 actvities are put on ice. On the contrary. Perhaps a prince unexpectedly appears and wakes the Sleeping Beauty with a kiss?

Since I don't use AOL anymore, GoDot site has been accommodated. All images should be displayed now and downloads should work. Please report problems! And sorry! The documentation of GoDot's savers and modifiers is still not accomplished yet.

Am 20. Dezember 2008

Converting a painted picture to sprites

On August 23rd, 2008

A new project in the makings! These are its first two results: mod.BossConvert and ldr.SPSto4Bit.
What is it? BossConvert is a game developping tool. Up to now it was necessary for developpers to manually rework the painted final enemies to their appropriate sprites sets. Now this "translation" will be done by BossConvert. You receive a file which can contain up to 80 sprites of the final enemy set. Read more in the description of the module.

BossConvert is the first step forward to a set of tools allowing you to animate your sprite sets. BossConvert's file format already is prepared for this task. There's something going on in the world of GoDot!

To have a look at the final enemy sprite set created by GoDot, I wrote ldr.SPSto4Bit. It retransforms Boss Sprite Sets back to graphics which is editable.

FrameClip-Artikel

ClipWorks-Artikel

On July 19th, 2007

These are the last two workshop articles from Infinite Loop. They were planned as the beginning of a kind of GoDot lexicon, which would describe all of its modifiers (i.e. all modules which have "mod." as their prefix). These two are about MODs ClipWorks and FrameClip

Question is: Is there any interest in pursuing this project? It's a good deal of work which only pays if it would be read by more than 20 people... ;-)

Instructions on disk

On July 4th, 2006 (Independence Day):

After a longer period of beta testing, I now present GoDot's driver for the ComputerEyes video digitizer! By assistance of the North American C64 addict Richard Milam (who tested the software in permanence) I dared to develop a driver for a device which I don't own myself for the first time in GoDot history. The driver is SCPU friendly, i.e. you don't need to manually switch the speeder  down to 1 MHz everytime you use it. GoDot's ldr.ComputerEyes is only meant for NTSC devices because the device can't be obtained  in Europe.

2006-04-17: New svr.GeoPaint for you!

The big one: a 640x400 geoPaint
This image is a 640x400 geoPaint image as rendered by GoDot.

Am 17. April 2006:

Download.

On April 17th, 2006:

Good news for GEOS-.Users! The geoPaint format saver has gained an important addition, it is now capable of saving images 1:1, which is 320x200! It didn't make sense to scale up black&white images to those hardcoded 640x400 pixels. Also, many a color image would be nice at  320x200 size, too. Yes, now it works!

Directives: Like before, you should choose one of GoDots dither patterns before saving color images (which all become converted to b&w), best would be either "Ordered" or "Pattern". Who doesn't do anything else, will gain a 640x400 image like shown above. If you additionally switch Exec Area to "Clip", GoDot will save the image 1:1. It will produce a 640x208 pixels canvas, which contains the 320x200 image, left adjusted. VICE-Users should switch True Drive Emulation on, because the created file is a VLIR file. Download

The small one: 320x200 pixels Waif, 320x200 pixels geoPaint (from a Doodle)
The one on the left is its 320x200 version. The right one is another example (taken from Gaelyne Gasson's Super Mega CBM CD)

These ones just to have a glimpse of how good GoDot does its job when converting from Hires to Multicolor mode. Just GREAT!
Einfach TOLL!
The above converted to multicolor mode (IFLI). The above converted to multicolor mode (IFLI).

Am 1. April 2006:

Set Background Color
Retrieve (or set) the background color in memory or in file.

On April 1st, 2006:

Again a tool, useful for diagnostic purposes (too). With this one you can retrieve the background color of a multicolor image without any effort (without re-rendering the image). It even shows the original color from the file (you need the latest version of the multicolor format loaders for this purpose!) It probably may differ from the optimized bg color GoDot renders.

Who wants to force GoDot to render using the original bg color just sets GoDot's rendering area to "Full" in ClipWorks, but to "Clip" in main screen (behind "Exec Area"). ;-)
